ESO favorite William Wolfram, piano, will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 on these concerts. The work premiered April 5, 1803, with Beethoven himself as the piano soloist, playing the work almost entirely from memory. Chicago-area guest conductor Edwin Outwater, known for his dynamic musical interpretations, will conduct the program, which includes Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 12, also called The Year 1917. This is the latest in the ESO’s exploration of Shostakovich symphonies, having performed Symphony No. 11 (The Year 1905) in January 2016.
