Explore Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7
Inside the Music with Andrew Grams, ESO music director, are lively, 90 minute in-depth explorations of masterworks using discussion and musical excerpts to explain how the piece was composed and to examine its various elements. After intermission, the ESO will perform the entire work with participants having a deeper, richer connection to the music. Programs are informal, laid-back and fun! All part of the ESO’s goal to offer musical experiences that enlighten, enrich and inform.
Inside the Music Friday, November 3 will explore Ludwig van Beethoven’s Seventh (7) Symphony. Beethoven is consistently voted the most beloved classical composer of all time. Most rave about Beethoven’s 7th, “The final movement zips along at an irrepressible pace that threatens to sweep the entire orchestra off its feet and around the theater, caught up in the sheer joy of performing one of the most perfect symphonies ever written.” But many contemporaries actually speculated that Beethoven was drunk when he wrote the piece, especially the fourth movement, about which Conductor Thomas Beecham commented, “What can you do with it? It’s like a lot of yaks jumping about."
